Struggles with disease in particular Downey mildew and sclerotinia in onion on the family farm drove Shane's 35 year journey researching and consulting. Shane founded and runs the agronomy arm of Metagen, a company that focuses on multidisciplined approaches to plant health. Metagen run Australia's first commercial metabarcoding lab based in the Lockyer Valley. Metagen has partnered with UQ, SU and Syngenta in research on soil health and plant health and has multiple publications in this field.
